The first Trim Bowls Club Go For Life Perpetual Cup was held in Trim G.A.A centre
on Tues. 1st March, and attended by over 50 bowlers and supporters.
This Bowls/Social event featuring a challange match between a Trim and Navan Selection
of over 55 yrs bowlers was deemed an outstanding success by all.
The match consisted of 4 teams of 4 bowlers each. A total of 32 bowlers (male and female).
A draw was made for the 4 mats and each team played two games of nine ends.
In the second match, each team played against different opposition on a different mat.
the Trim Skips were Gerry Fitzsimons, Joe Fitzsimons, Sean Fahey and Barney McKenna.
The Navan Skips were Jimmy Dolan, Shay Edwards, John Kerwick and Sean Cahill.
The result (the total score for all matches) was a 75 to 41 victory for Trim.
The match was followed by tea, sandwiches, etc., after which the Trim Bowls Club Hon Secretary
Joe Fitzsimons welcomed all, thanked those who helped organise the day, and
acknowledged the co-operation and assistance of Meath Local Sports Partnership, Go For Life c/o Age &
Opportunity Trim Town Council and Trim GAA. He then introduced the two guests of honour who made the
presentation. These were - our newly elected T.D. forWest Meath Mr. Ray Butler, and
Mr. Richard Farrell, Go For Life National Development Officer.
They presented the Cup to Dessie Cowap, Chairman Trim Bowls Club. In his remarks,
Mr Butler praised the organisers and noted that this was his first official duty since being elected.
Mr. Farrell expressed his delight at the success of the event and outlined the Go For Life FitLine program.
Phil Duffy spoke on behalf of Navan and thanked Joe and the club for a wonderful day.
